What COR and SECOR require
More than just a manual on a shelf

COR and SECOR are health and safety certifications administered through Alberta Certifying Partners like ACSA. They recognize employers who have implemented a functioning, auditable health and safety management system.

Both programs require passing an external audit. Auditors don’t just read your manual — they look for evidence that your program is actually being used in the field.

Why contractors pursue COR/SECOR: required by major oil and gas clients, required for many public infrastructure contracts, WCB Alberta premium rebate of up to 20%, and competitive advantage in prequalification systems like ISNetworld, Avetta, and ComplyWorks.

What auditors actually look for:
  • ✓A written, implemented health and safety program
  • ✓Evidence of hazard identification and control
  • ✓Worker orientation and training records
  • ✓Completed inspections and corrective actions
  • ✓Incident reporting and investigation records
  • ✓Worker participation and safety meetings
  • ✓Management leadership and commitment
Common reasons audits fail
What we see most often when companies come to us
📁
Documents not implemented
The manual is on the shelf but workers haven’t been oriented and supervisors don’t use the forms
📋
Missing records
No training logs, no completed inspection forms, no corrective action documentation
🔍
Generic hazard assessments
FLHAs that don’t reflect actual tasks, equipment, and site conditions
👷
No worker participation evidence
Auditors need to see that workers are involved — not just management filling out forms
How JADR helps
What audit preparation looks like with JADR
01
Gap Assessment

02
Documentation Cleanup
Policies, procedures, SWPs, forms, training matrices — we build what’s missing and update what’s outdated
03
Records Review
We help organize and verify training logs, inspection records, incident reports, and corrective action documentation
04
Audit Coaching
We coach supervisors on what to expect, how to answer auditor questions, and how to demonstrate your program is live

Honest note: No consultant can guarantee you’ll pass a COR or SECOR audit. Certification depends on how your program is implemented, how your workers participate, and the evidence you can show on audit day. What JADR can do is make sure you go in with the strongest possible foundation. Most pre-audit engagements run $1,500–$5,000 depending on scope.

Don’t wait until the week before your audit
